September 17, 1960: Jan Liesen born in Oosterhout, Netherlands
1978-1983: Student at Grootseminarie Rolduc in Kerkrade, Netherlands
1984: Ordained as a priest in the diocese of Roermond, Netherlands
1983-85: Serves for a short time as a curate in Eygelshoven, a small town near Kerkrade, before commencing further studies in Rome and Jerusalem
1988: Earns Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome
1989: Year of preparation for doctorate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome
1990: Begins teaching at the Grootseminarie Rolduc and commences research on his doctoral dissertation, Full of Praise: Textual Criticism of Sirach 39:15c-35, published in 1998.
(It was later published by Brill in 2000 as part of the Supplements to the Journal for the Study of Judaism series.)
1996: Fr. Liesen becomes librarian at the Grootseminarie Rolduc. He spends considerable time training the permanent diaconate.
2000-03: Teaches at seminary in the diocese of Haarlem, Netherlands
2001-06: Teaches at seminary in the diocese of Den Bosch, Netherlands
2004: Appointed by John Paul II to be a member of the International Theological Commission
2009: Currently Fr. Liesen is Librarian, Professor of New Testament Exegesis, Professor of Biblical Theology, and Professor of Hebrew Bible at the Seminaire Rolduc
in Kerkrade, Netherlands. Fr. Liesen has published several books and articles on the deuterocanonical book Sirach
