He has published articles in systematic and moral theology in Revista de Ciencias religiosas (Guadalajara, Mexico), Efemerides Mexicanae (Mexico City), The Proceedings of the Catholic Theological Society of America, and other journals.

He has presented scholarly papers at conventions of the Catholic Theological Society of America (1997), the American Academy of Religion (1994, 2003, 2005, and 2006), and the Society of Biblical Literature (national: 1994; international: 1995 [Dublin], 1996 [Lausanne], 2007 [Vienna]), and other professional meetings.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, he was ordained on May 22, 1971, as a priest of the diocese of Wilmington. Appointed in 1971 as associate pastor to St. Hedwig Church, Wilmington, in 1974 he transferred to SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Orchard Lake, MI, where he served first as director of field education. In 1975 he became dean of students, and in 1977 he was appointed rector, a position which he held for twenty-five years. From 1986 until 2000, he has also served as vice chancellor of the Orchard Lake Schools.
In the mid-80s, he initiated the Polish American Vocation Awareness project and a program of active recruitment of seminarians from Poland. He participated in annual meetings of Seminary Rectors in Poland from 1985 to 2001. In 1992 he initiated steps leading towards initial accreditation of the Seminary, which was granted in 1995 by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) for a period of five years. He served a three-year term on the executive committee of the Midwest Association of Theological Schools (MATS) and president of the association for 1992-93. In 1996, he was named Prelate of Honor to Pope John Paul II with the title of Monsignor. Since his appointment to the Seminary in 1974 to the present, he has served as weekend assistant at St. Kieran Parish, Shelby Township, MI.

In 2002-2003, he participated in the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication, Portland, Oregon, and the Ministry to Ministers Sabbatical Program at Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio, Texas. After his sabbatical he resumed teaching at the Seminary as professor of moral and pastoral theology, a position in which he presently serves. In 2004, he became a member of the Archdiocese of Detroit Association of Educational Ministers in Catechist Formation.

His publications include:
“Reflections on the Future of Priestly Ministry in the Third Millennium,” Catholic Star Hearld (April 21, 1991).
“Today’s seminarians reflect church’s diversity,” The Michigan Catholic (January 22, 1993):6A-7A.
Currently, he is working on three articles for the Polish American Historical Association Encyclopedia project: (1) “Reverend Joseph Dabrowski;” (2) “SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary;” (3) and “Polish American Priests Association.”

Areas of academic and professional interest: Issues in fundamental moral theology; Intercultural communication, especially developing skills as an intercultural facilitator for acculturation of immigrants; History of Catholicism in the United States generally, with particular emphasis on the Polish American community; Formation of catechists; Adult faith formation; and Ongoing formation of priests and lay ecclesial ministers.

Fr. Slawomir Jakubiec, B.A., L.Th, M.A., S.T.D.

Fr. Slawomir Jakubiec was born in Poland.  Fr. Jakubiec began his university education at the University Marii Curie Skladowska (U.M.C.S.)  Civil Law in Lublin.  Following that time, he entered the Seminary at KUL in Lublin.  He received a Master and Licentiat of Theology and a few years later completed his Doctorate Degree in Fundamental Theology with an emphasis on Anthropology.  Fr. Jakubiec was ordained in 1976 in the Diocese of Lublin, where he worked until 1980 when he became missionary priest. Before joining SSCMS, he served the Church in Zambia, Central Africa,  and after Diocese of Armidale in New South Wales , Australia.  Fr. Jakubiec now serves SS Cyril and Methodius Seminary as Dean of Spiritual Formation for the seminarians.
He is also a licensed pilot in both the United States and Poland.

Msgr. Charles Kosanke, M.Div., M.T.S., S.T.L., S.T.D.

Msgr. Charles Kosanke was born in northeast Detroit. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary. He earned a Masters in Divinity and a Masters in Theological Studies from St. John Provincial Seminary in 1985.
Msgr. Kosanke was ordained a deacon on June 7, 1985; his diaconate assignment was at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Redford. He was ordained a priest on December 14, 1985. His first assignment was at Shrine of the Little Flower Parish 1986-1988. He was assigned to Rome from 1988-1992, where he earned a license and doctorate in Biblical Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He published his dissertation under the topic of: The Encounters of the risen Jesus in Luke-Acts. He has also published articles in the New Catholic Encyclopedia (2ed.). Courses that he teaches includes: the Synoptic Gospels, Pauline Literature and the Catholic Epistles. He is interested in resurrection theology, social ethics and biblical spirituality
Msgr. Kosanke served for ten years (1992-2002) on the faculty and administration of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in the following capacities: Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture, Director of Undergraduate Seminarians, Moderator of the Latin American Program, and Dean of Administration and Advancement. During the time he served as temporary pastor for St. Benedict’s Parish in Highland Park, Church of Madonna and St. Cecilia’s Parish in Detroit. He has served on the Archdiocesan Assignment Board, as the Vicar of North Central Vicariate, and two terms as a member of the Presbyteral Council. Msgr. Kosanke served as pastor of Guardian Angels Parish in Clawson and President of Bishop Foley Catholic High School in Madison Heights from 2002-2005.
Msgr. Kosanke is currently the President of the American Friends of the Vatican Library, President of the Msgr. Kern Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors for The Michigan Catholic newspaper, Board member of Catholic Social Services of Oakland County, Spiritual Advisor to the Detroit St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Chaplain to the Detroit Legatus Chapter. He is active in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter movement.


Fr. Miroslaw Kazimierz Krol , M.Div, SLL. cand

Fr. Miroslaw K. Krol was born on August 18, 1970 in Gorlice, Poland to Marian and Helena (Bogusz) Krol and grew up in Stawisza, Poland.

In 1991 Fr. Krol began studies at the Seminary of Christ the King, Gdansk, Poland in preparation for the priesthood. He completed his philosophy degree in 1993 and continued for one year to study theology at the same seminary. In the meantime, he applied and was accepted to SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI.

Fr. Krol attended SS. Cyril and Methodius for two years where he studied English (ESL) and aculturation. In 1996 he was accepted to Immaculate Conception Seminary of Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ in order to continue his theological studies. He was ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of Newark in June 1998.

He completed his MA in Systematic Theology in 1999 and on May 29, 1999, was ordained a priest by Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, for the Archdiocese of Newark.

Fr. Krol has also had various appointments during his priesthood, including serving at many parishes throughout New Jersey. In 2003, Fr. Krol was appointed the Coordinator of the Polish Apostolate for the Archdiocese of Newark by Archbishop John J. Myers. Since 2002 he has been the President of the John Paul II Vatican Foundation, New Jersey Chapter. In 2003 he was elected by the presbyterate to be President of the Polish Clergymen’s Society of the Archdiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Paterson. In 2004 he was elected a member of the board of directors of the Polish American Priests Association. He also served as the Chairman for the 2006 P.A.P.A. Convention in Newark, NJ.

In June 2006 he was appointed by Cardinal Adam Maida as dean of Students at SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI.

Since the fall of 2005, he has been studying for a doctorate in Liturgy at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Krakow, Poland. He is expected to obtain his STL in the Spring 2008.


Fr. Louis Madey, PhD/STD

Fr. Louis Madey earned his academic degrees from the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. He has written and defended two dissertations: the Master’s Degree in Ecumenical Theology focused on the History and Theology of the Ecumenical Movement; the Doctorate in Systematic Theology on the topic of Understanding of Salvation History from the Vatican Second Council Documents. He also earned a Licentiate of Theology Degree in 1971.

As an incardinated priest of the Diocese of Lansing, he has worked in pastoral and academic settings for about forty years. He has read extensively in American History, Literature, Economics, contemporary developments in Psychology and Philosophy of Mind. In Philosophy his main interest is Metaphysics, Cognitive Theory and Philosophy of Religion. In Theology he focuses his attention on the Holy Trinity, Personalism, Pneumatology, Ecclesiology and the Theology of History.

He taught in variety of university and cultural settings in the United States, Poland, Canada, Japan and Australia. His academic courses, writings and publications treat on many themes from different areas of human intellectual interest. For almost a decade he served as a Military Chaplain for the US Navy and Marine Corps. Presently, he immensely enjoys his service to the Church in the SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary’s Priestly Formation Program.


Carole Poleski

A native of Georgia, Mrs. Poleski holds a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Duke University (Durham, North Carolina) and a master’s degree in TESOL from Eastern Michigan University. She has taught ESL since 1992 in a variety of settings, including public school, private tutoring, community college, university and seminary. Her teaching experience includes six appointments as visiting lecturer at the International Summer Language School at the University of West Bohemia in the Czech Republic.

Mrs. Poleski has taught courses in all areas of ESL, with a special interest in the teaching of grammar, reading, and pronunciation. She is a member of TESOL and its Michigan affiliate, MITESOL. She has given presentations at annual meetings of both organizations, on topics of methodology in ESL grammar teaching. In addition, she and a colleague have organized three day-long workshops for ESL English teachers in various regions of Michigan. She teaches courses in grammar, reading/writing, and listening/speaking at the seminary.

Sr. Karen Shirilla, SJ has served in education as teacher and administrator at all levels. Her concentration area for the doctorate in Higher Education is research and curriculum development. She has worked in Seminary education as field education director, assistant dean, academic dean, registrar, director of lay ministry. She has served on accreditation teams for NCATE and NCA and directed self studies for accreditation with ATS as well as NCATE, NCA and ACPE.

Sr. Karen is a member of the Servants of Jesus religious community where she serves on the Leadership Team.
