The library’s Rare Book Room houses Polish-language books published before 1946, and books in other languages which are considered Rare because of age, subject matter, fragility, or provenance. (Books in Polish published after World War II are part of our regular circulating collection.) The Rare Book collection numbers about 15,000 books, to which new volumes are continually being added, and includes works dating as far back as the 16th century. Besides Polish items, the collection is especially strong in theology. Users can access these books in our secure facility, but they may not be checked out. The Rare Book Room is located on the Lake Level and is open Tuesday-Thursday and by appointment.
